Cindy Welch is a Colorado native. She had a love of art at an early age and won many awards in grade school, middle school and at Thomas Jefferson High School in Denver. Among those awards was a full tuition scholarship to Rocky Mountain College of Art & Design where she majored in Commercial Art. She had the opportunity to try many different mediums in art school but had a special affinity for watercolor.

After graduating in 1984 she took a job at a Denver design studio called Visual Images. Her strength was in layout and design and she had the opportunity to work with pen and ink and airbrush. She also worked with several local home builders creating architectural renderings in pen & ink and watercolor.

After 2 years at Visual Images, she became a freelance graphic artist. She got married and raised 3 daughters while continuing to work from home, which didn’t leave much time for “fun art”.   After her divorce in 2007 she decided to once again pursue the medium she loved, watercolor.

“I love the exciting surprises of watercolor. Mingling colors, the mixing of water and paint, pouring, masking. There’s always something new. My passion is color and making the image more exciting to the viewer with great color while still maintaining a level of realism”

Cindy also has a passion for photography and loves to paint from her own photographs of nature. “When I am outside with my camera, I see paintings everywhere.” Her painting entitled “Mailboxes” (from a photo taken in Marble, CO) won 1st place in the Intermediate category of the Front Range Art Exhibit in 2011. She was honored to have her talent recognized by fellow local artists.

Cindy has lived in Castle Rock for 25 years. Recently she started to focus on painting local landmarks in the hometown she loves. Her painting entitled “Tribute” of the Douglas County Veteran’s Monument in downtown Castle Rock was a meaningful undertaking. Part of the proceeds from sales will be donated to the Douglas County Veteran’s Monument Foundation. She currently publishes 4 community newsletters monthly and operates a community website called She is a member of the Castle Rock Art Guild and helps promote the organization through her newsletters and website.
